Editions Fawbush is pleased to announce the publication of two bronze multiples by Gardar Eide Einarsson. Einarsson, an alumnus of the Whitney Studio Program and a youthful presence in the New York gallery scene, has presented us with Balls, along with its partner edition, Black Balls. Like much of the artist's work, this edition traffics in the Culture of Subculture, with heavy doses of anti-authoritarian sentiment, irony and transgression. In addition, the artist's references to Minimal and Conceptual Art are apparent; in fact, here they are embraced and eroticized. Balls, a manipulated ready-made based on the popular blue-collar truck accessory seen hanging off that vehicle's rear trailer hitch, is the flipside of Einarsson's riffs on over- intellectualization. It is however definitively grounded in the artist's penchant for mining theatricality, Punk Rock, coded humor and provocation. Heavy in material, yet light in spirit, it is a dead-on example of Einarsson's practice of ridiculing patriarchal authority.
